What is an NP? NP stands for Nurse Practitioner.  I am licensed by the state of Oregon as an ANP-PP (Adult Nurse Practitioner with Prescriptive Privileges) which means I can give primary care to adults over age 18 and write prescriptions for needed medications. Are you supervised by a doctor? No, I work independently. However, I do consult with other providers (MDs, NDs, Psychologists) when appropriate and I refer patients to specialists such as cardiologist, gynecologist, surgeon, etc. when indicated. I share office space with Daniel Hardt, ND. Will my insurance pay for your services? Yes, we are able to bill most insurance for typical office visits.  However, insurance coverage is often lacking or minimal for the type of specialized testing sometimes used by holistic/functional medicine practitioners to detect early, subtle imbalances. Many policies specifically exclude treatment relating to obesity or mental health. Also, individualized compounded medications and nutraceuticals are usually not covered. We advise you to contact your insurance company’s customer service department to answer any questions you may have about the coverage and reimbursement provided by your particular policy.  Questions regarding billing or payment should be directed to my billing specialist, Tracy Greig, at Twin Oaks Medical Management (541) 485-9300. Cancellation Policy: If you reach the message recorder during business hours please leave a message. Your call will be returned as soon as the receptionist is free. Any appointment not cancelled 24 hours before the scheduled time may be assessed a $25 fee that is not covered by insurance. Repeated failure to show for appointments may be cause for termination from this medical practice. Do you do Physical Exams and PAP’s? Yes, I request most patients to schedule for an annual physical exam if they wish to establish care with me as a Primary Care Provider (PCP). This is waived for consultative only services. Which patients would be better served by seeing a MD rather than NP? I do not prescribe for chronic pain patients or psychiatric patients needing long term prescription controlled drugs such as narcotics, benzodiazepines or sleeping pills. I am happy to provide primary care to patients under the care of a specialist; however, any narcotics prescribed from this office will be in limited quantities for short-term use only. Also patients with multiple complex illnesses that could possibly necessitate hospitalization in the foreseeable future should be under the care of an MD. As a NP, I do not have admitting privileges to any of the local hospitals. Are there any ordinary services that you do not provide?  We do not stock vaccines; however, vaccines are now available directly at several pharmacies and at the Lane County Health Department immunization clinic. We can provide recommendations and prescriptions if needed. We do not treat Workman’s Compensation injuries; occupational health services can be obtained at Cascade Health Solutions. We do not do any office surgical procedures or casting: urgent but not life threatening injuries can be treated at any of the local Urgent Care facilities such as the one at 13th and Patterson. What happens if one of your patients needs to be hospitalized?  Patients who have trauma or unexpected emergency problems presenting to Sacred Heart (River Bend and University District) get assigned to the “on call” internal medicine physician from the Lane Independent Practitioners group.  Patients presenting to McKenzie- Willamette get assigned to one of the Hospitalists (doctors specializing in inpatient management) employed by the hospital. For non-emergent hospital admissions, the MD specialist such as gynecologist or surgeon is the admitting doctor.   Patient Registration Form Records Release FROM Our Office Records Release TO our office Our knowledgable and friendly office staff are always ready to help you with anything you need.
